What happened to Fable 5?
On June 12, 2026, the US Commerce Department issued an emergency export control directive ordering Anthropic to disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals worldwide — including Anthropic's own employees. The reason? Someone jailbroke the model to find software vulnerabilities — some undiscovered for decades. The government panicked. The models went dark within 90 minutes.
